Often we think of summer as the time that we spend being more active, eating more fresh produce and living a healthier life, but fall may be the perfect season to get fit and start working towards new goals.  FitClub has four reasons fall is the best season for fitness.

  1. The end of the busy summer schedule leaves you with more free time.Summer is here and gone in the blink of an eye.  If you spent your summer rushing between gatherings with family and friends, the pool, and summer vacations, you might be pleasantly surprised that after Labor Day most people’s schedules tend to slow down dramatically.  Families are getting back into a school year routine, summer vacations are wrapping up, and most pools are shutting down.  How will you spend those after work or weekend evenings now that the season of late nights with friends is over?  By focusing on your fitness.  Fall is the perfect time to review your schedule and carve out time for yourself and your personal goals.

  2. Starting on new goals in the fall and you can prevent unwanted winter weight gain. It seems like after Labor Day many of us start thinking about the holidays.  If you’re trying to lose weight and live a healthier life, that may come with a very legitimate fear of unwanted weight gain. If you start adopting a healthier diet and fitness routine now instead of waiting another day, you’ll have a great head start on the holiday dinners and cocktail parties.  By the time Thanksgiving and Christmas roll around, you’ll have healthy habits in place that will make it easier to maintain a healthy routine during the holiday season.

  3. Central Illinois’s locally grown produce is best in fall. Summer may be a great time of year for fresh fruit, but in Illinois, fall is the season of fresh, local produce.  This is a great time of year to get everything you need at the farmers’ market to prepare healthy family meals and snacks.  Incorporating more locally sourced fall produce into your meal plan gives you the nutrients your body needs without the unhealthy fats and calories that come from too much fast food.  Stay in this fall and learn to grill your family favorites to add flavor to your favorite fall produce.

  4. Spring and summer goals start in the fall. Whether you want to run a spring race of a new, more challenging distance or just be in better shape to enjoy outdoor activities with your children or friends next summer, the goals start in the fall.  Big fitness goals take months of training and there is no better time to start than now. Having a big spring or summer goal to work towards will keep you busy and motivated even through the dark, cold winter months.  Think of how much easier it will be on a dark, cold January morning to make it into FitClub for your morning exercise class with a big spring or summer goal halfway accomplished!
