As the weather continues to warm up, your mind might be turning towards thoughts of healthy living and spending time in the water.  We all know the health benefits associated with swimming, but if you’re not interested or able to swim laps in the pool this summer you might want to take advantage of FitClub’s Aquatics Group Exercise  classes to burn calories in the pool.

Aquatic classes is perfect for people that might need to limit the pressure they can put on their joints during exercise.  Whether you’re temporarily injured from a more high impact exercise routine or looking for a change of pace, aquatic classes can help you get fitter without additional pain or injury to your joints.  Whatever your motivation might be, FitClub has five reasons you should check out aquatic classes this summer.

  • Calorie burn. Burning calories is generally a high priority for those that enjoy exercise.  Aquatic classes doesn’t disappoint.  Water naturally adds resistance to any moves that you might perform as part of your exercise routine.  The additional resistance of the water plus the cardio activity allows you to perform cardio and strength in one workout resulting in a higher calorie burn overall.  Experts estimate that you might expect to burn between four hundred and five hundred calories in a one hour class.

  • Buoyancy is better than gravity. If running has left you with aches and pains, you might enjoy running or other cardio activity in the water.  While the water lifts you up and makes your body more buoyant, gravity takes a back seat and you don’t suffer from the shocking impact of hitting the ground. Even people with chronic joint pain or arthritis can work up a sweat in the pool without pain.

  • Less stress and anxiety. It’s not only beachfront pools or lazing on a raft that reduces stress and anxiety, but the water itself.  Polish researchers identified reduced levels of stress and anxiety associated with exercise in the water.  Not only does your body produce the endorphins like land exercise, but water itself is a natural cure all for day to day stresses.

  • Increased flexibility. While land exercise might leave you stiff or sore, aquatic classes may actually increase your flexibility.  The force of the water’s resistance requires your body to adapt by becoming more flexible. With increased flexibility, your body will feel better long after your workout has ended.

  • Exercise can be fun. The truth is when it’s time to jump in the pool, we are all still just little kids that like to splash.  Your exercise doesn’t have to be boring to be effective.  You can have more fun in an aquatic classes than running on the treadmill by yourself.  Sharing your exercise time with likeminded people just as happy to be in the water as yourself is a great way to have some fun, reduce stress, and indulge in a very effective exercise program.
